Christmas at the Young's

Linda loves to get ready for the Christmas holiday. With Thanksgiving over, Linda has started the decorating. She all ready has the Dr. Suess Christmas tree out and her nutcrackers on display.

Mike's Graduation

On October 19th we had a party for Mike to celebrate his graduation from High School. Family, neighbors, and some school friends all attended. Mike had a great time. Mike had made up several collages on poster board that he handed out to his friends and family. This celebration included a graduation cake and a "big sandwich" that we got from Hungry Hobo.

We all had a great time. After the party Mike was was ready to go back to "Emily Place" and rest up for work at "PARC" the following day. Congradulations Mike !!!

LAMANSKY MONUMENTS PLACED

We visited Roy and Bev Lamansky in early October and Roy had finished getting the monuments placed at Peter, Anna, Henry, and Frank Lamansky's gravesites. The stones looked great.

ROY BUYS PETER LAMANSKY'S SLEIGH

Roy was excited because he was able to purchase a one horse sleigh that once belonged to Peter Lamansky. The sleigh was passed down to John Lamansky and then to Leroy Lamansky and then sold a farm auction. Roy asked the person who bought the sleigh if he was ever interested in selling it to let him know. Well about 30 years later Roy was able to buy back the sleigh. He has spent a considerable amount of time cleaning the sleigh. It is in excellent condition. As soon as it snows, Roy hopes to be giving his grandchildren rides in it this winter.

LAURA ? COWEN

In the 1895 Iowa Census James E Cowen and his family were found in What Cherr, Iowa. The names listed were James age 45 with a birthplace of Vermont. His wife,Laura B Cowen, at age 34 is listed with a birthplace of Jackson County, Iowa. A notation on the census under her names is "D". I assume this means deceased, since I found her burial location to be at McFarland Cemetery in Keokuk County, Washington Township. Her date of death is listed August 19,1894. The two children listed in the 1895 census are Stella M (age 12) and Ester L (age 9). Around 1900 James E Cowen married Mary Lamansky. James, Mary and Stella and Esther can be found in the 1900 Federal Census in What Cheer, Washington Township, Keokuk County, Iowa

BUD HAGANS

Silbert "Bud" Hagans who was the 3rd husband of Dorothy Young is buried in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield, Iowa next to his parents. Bud died a tragic death in 1947 from an auto accident. It appears that Bud and Dorothy had attended a party and were returning home when the car had a front tire blow out. The car went out of control and hit a telephone pole in Moline, Illinois. Bud was conscious when the police ambulance arrived at the scene, however he died enroute to the hospital from a neck fracture and shock.
